40 days of art

Brooklyn Potluck

I met my BFF Elissa via another Tinder date (Tinder should have been called Tinder friend zone because I made so many friends that way. I did eventually meet my current partner on Tinder, but it only took 10 years of meeting friends only to do so). Elissa is truly my sister from another mister. We both are really serious about our art but don’t take ourselves too seriously, so it’s like a match made in heaven —but can also lead to some epic craft hangs.

One day, we decided out of the blue that we wanted to make a board game for funsies. We went to Michaels at 10am and crafted for 12 hours straight. I love that lady, but we are so art-obsessive we probably need a third party around to make sure we eat and take breaks and don’t craft for 24 hours. The concept of the game was that you had to get your meal from your house in Bed-Stuy to a potluck in Greenpoint, There are lots of setbacks. All of the game pieces are Brookln inspired like a skateboard, a pizza slice, a pile of poop and a MetroCard. If the players land on the laundromat they have to wear (clean) underwear on their head, and if they land on the subway square, they have to scream “Showtime” and do an impromptu dance performance. I made a giant paper mache gold die and the whole thing is so wacky and fun. The game is actually really hard to win by design, because we wanted our friends to play with us for as long as possible.
