Coupon Queen
I’ve always loved a good spectacle, and I’ll put all my energy into making one. I had this idea to make a performance art piece where I sit in a gallery and silently smoke fake cigarettes, watching TV and cutting coupons. When people would try to engage with me I would just hand them a coupon without speaking or even looking at them.
The set I built for this piece was serving Middle American royalty. I decoupaged a wooden country style chair (my throne) with coupons and painted it gold. I spray painted a TV gold and then made a video tape with a bunch of old 50s tv shows. I bedazzled a pair of scissors because I live for details. I made two collages of a jester and a knight that were corporate puppets and they were hanging behind me.
