Seven Deadly Sins

Seven Deadly Sins was a series I did as part of my first ever art exhibition that was put on by a local art collective, United Mind Conglomerate. Initially I was going to display some printed pieces from Informed Revolution (which were woefully low res), but I also wanted to make something new that I could debut at the exhibit. I had recently watched the movie Seven (I was pretty sheltered from most pop culture stuff growing up, so I was very late to the game with watching cultural sensations) and I thought why not make a series about the Seven Deadly Sins but from the lens of the United States.

George W was president at the time and there were lots of things to respond to. At this point, I had really opened my eyes to the unfair labor practices of corporations like Walmart and wanted to address consumerism and the war in a visual way. Being a fan of Warhol (in highschool I was obsessive, making many paintings that tried to replicate his style), I decided to put all of the collages on a bright pop art background.

The show was really well received, and that type of encouragement helped me to continue wanting to show my art publicly.
